I really love Japanese folklore. The stories to me are so imaginative and creative. I really love the stories dealing with Yokai. What is that you say? Well Yokai are the Japanese version of supernatural monsters. Unlike most J horror that most Americans have grown to love. These stores deal with monsters and not ghost. The American equivalent would be the Wolf Man, Creature from the Black Lagoon or Big Foot. Why not all of them are out to kill, some of them a quite deadly. These creatures often possess animal features and others appear mostly human, still others have no shape at all. If you really want to get a feel for these creatures I suggest you look up a Manga (Comic) Called Hakaba no Kitarō or the Anime GeGeGe no Kitarō by artist Shigeru Mizuki. One of my favorites! To me its a nice change from Giant Robots, But don't get me wrong I love giant robots too. Here are some concept drawings I did with Yokai in my own style.
