Good morning Steemers!
A new day has been born and comes with lots of rain! Sadly, the tears from Heaven are washing away the white blanket of snow but never the less, today is going to be a marvelous day!
Even the half melted snowman I see when I look out of my window has a smile on his face!
Outside, more and more Christmas lights pop up and turning the streets into a softer place!
Yesterday I finished 2 of my paintings and today I am showing one of them!
It's an abstract flower but when I started I had no idea what it would become. I like to go with the flow at times and just see what comes from the path I take that day.
For this painting I used:
* A canvas 20cm x 20cm
* Amsterdam acrylic paint
* Amsterdam brushes
* A palet knife
* Water
* Kitchen paper
* A pencil
* A ruler
I like to go to youtube to get some inspiration for my paintings and this time I had been watching abstract paintings made with palets knives. For my birthday I got a set of palet knives and this was the perfect moment to give one of them a try! Honestly, when I start watching youtube, it becomes a struggle to stop! There are so many amazing vloggers out there who share their work that I could bench watch it days in a row!
Here ^ you see the start of the project!
What you don't see on the picture is the large mug of coffee and a some nice pink cookies!
I mean.... I like to have a good time while I paint! :D
Would not be the first time I spill my coffee or drop a cookie straight into my painting or paint!
I started with putting some paint in the canvas, straight from the tubes!
A silly fact is that I was kinda nervous to use the palet knife! There are so many ways to work with them and seeing this was kinda new to me, I had no idea if I had to push hard or soft to create what I wanted.
I did not push really hard and found this a nice way to mix the colors on my canvas. I just have to point out that the paint from Amsterdam really is amazing! I am so in love with this brand of paint that I finaly ordered bigger bottles and tubes! The colors are very vibrant and they also blend well together! One more huge plus for me is that I don't need to add water to use the paint! It really flows straight from the tube! Marvelous!!!
After adding more and more paint I stepped back for about 5 minutes to give the paint a little bit of time to dry in. When I came back I cleaned my palet knife and pushed it down hard and scraped away the layers of paint! Half way done I realized I was making a flower! :D
So, I kept scraping paint away in the same way to create lines as if they were flower petals!
When the flower was totally dry it was time to think about the rest of the canvas. Because the flower is rather busy looking at its own I made the choice to keep the background more relaxed and easy. I used a pencil and ruler to draw some lines. The color choice was quickly made, green because that goes well with every kind of flower!
When I was done with the green back ground I used a big brush to let some water drip down on the paint. You will have to do this while the paint is not totally dry yet. It does work when the paint is dry but it takes much longer and sometimes the results are not that great!
I always wait for a at least one minute before I press the kitchen paper down on the canvas! When you do this, you kinda clean off some paint! And it leaves a nice structure on the painting! This also works amazing of you use a different color on top! If you paint your canvas green and you let that dry and then go over with a yellow paint, let some water fall and use the paper you will het green dots in your yellow paint!
Overall, I am really happy with the results of this painting!
Not only is the paint amazing to work with, I also learned a few things about working with a palet knife!
As always some proof of me holding the painting! ( I have never made so many pictures of myself to share on the internet :D ))
