Apostle Grace Lubega
2 Timothy 3:5(KJV), Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
God is a Spirit (John 4:24). Any acts in worship and service to Him must primarily be in the spirit.
Sometimes, things done in the soulish or fleshly realm are misunderstood to be done by the spirit man simply because they appear spiritual.
These actions (which appear spiritual yet are not) are what the Bible calls “forms of godliness.”
Forms of godliness are outward pretensions of 'men under godly experiences,' but without inward affirmations of the truths that yield the very experiences.
For example, service to God may have a “form of godliness” if not done in spirit. Paul explains and says, “For God is my witness, whom I serve WITH MY SPIRIT in the gospel of his Son…”(Romans 1:9).
People who serve with a “form of godliness” are what the Bible calls busy bodies (2 Thessalonians 3:11).
Our theme scripture reveals that when you have a form of godliness, you deny the power of God and His Word. The power lies in the true experiences of the spirit with God.
So, invest your spirit in everything you do in the gospel. That is the source of true worship and service to God.
FURTHER STUDY: Romans 1:9, 2 Thessalonians 3:11
GOLDEN NUGGET: Forms of godliness are outward pretensions of 'men under godly experiences,' but without inward affirmations of the truths that yield the very experiences.
PRAYER: Father, thank you for the power of the gospel. It is not just in the forms but in the experiences of the spirit. My spirit is invested in everything that I do. I worship, serve and pray with my spirit. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
