I did not know this was a thing... until I read it in a magazine from half a year ago.
Apparently, it has been popular to post #nomakeup pictures, ever since Alicia Keys decided to stop wearing make-up. Atleast that's what this magazine said.
First of all: Really? You need a celebrity to tell you that all-natural is okay? After all the selfies with a face full of crap smeared on it, you can now finally get your fill of attention by posting #nomakeup pictures?
Oh my gosh, what has this world come to?
I never wear make-up. Never. I think it's useless, makes women even more insecure and it is fudging expensive. Besides that, I cannot imagine all this crap is actually good for your skin. Oh and also, it takes more time away from your day or night (you know, for your beauty sleep).
Why would anyone do this to themselves? There are so many women who do not leave their house without make-up. A quick run to the store? Yeah, let me just draw on my face first. There are also women who get up early in the morning, put on their face, and then get back into bed with their boyfriend, as if they always look like this. Why? What is so wrong with just being yourself?
A little while ago, I saw a commercial displaying this exact behaviour. How bad can a commercial be to advertise this?
Even sheep are starting to join this madness... Don't be a sheep.
Second: I just opened up Twitter to check this #nomakeup tag. Sure enough, there's a few girls without make-up. A few. Then come two girls who have very, very obviously used eyeliner and mascara. Who the heck are you kidding? Are you so desperate for attention and confirmation that you cannot even go with the whole idea of the tag? Instead of leaving the tag alone, you still have to use its trending values, just to get your face out there?
I'll admit, some mascara can look good. I just don't really see what it can do to improve your daily life. Use it for special occasions, sure, but every time you leave the house? Come on, we are fine the way we are! If people don't like us, that's their problem. You cannot possibly be liked by everyone.
I'd say anyone shallow enough to dislike you for your looks does not deserve your attention in the first place. There's a reason the phrase "It's the inside that counts" is a thing. Because it makes sense! Any self-appreciating person should know this. You cannot build lasting relations on looks. Looks fade, no matter how much make-up you wear to try and mask it.
I guess it's all about the media making women into lust objects and all the social media with everyone posting their perfect pictures. I say, be stronger than that. Dare to be yourself and look for more meaning in your life than how many likes you get on a fake face.
Do Facebook likes really improve your life? Does it really make you happy to be a fake person in a shallow relationship?
I just wear extra glasses to make myself look extra special!
Oh, by the way, I am 28, 29 in a few weeks. People still ask me for ID sometimes. While buying alcohol, or even when visiting a museum, to check if I don't have this special teen pass for a discount. The lady at the counter said "You must be using great facial cream". I say it's because I don't stress my skin with unnecessary toxins every day.
Be happy in your own skin and spend your hard earned money on things (or even better: activities) that truly make you happy!
