Today I thought I'd share a coin I picked up about a month ago at a local coin shop. Unfortunately, I've not been able to buy a lot of silver lately. Things in my life have changed as often is the case for most people and I've had to tighten my budget a bit.
Things change, that's life... money comes and goes. I know that I'll be back to stacking on a more regular basis soon though. Anyway, what was I getting at here? Oh yes! The coin!
It's an Olympic silver Mexican 25 Peso coin! This coin was made to commemorate the 19th Olympic games which was the first Olympic games ever held in a Spanish-speaking, Latin American country which was in Mexico.
This was the famous Olympics where 2 African American sprinters raised their fists as they stood on the podium, in solidarity with the Black Freedom Movement in the United States. Not looking to make this about politics, it's just quite a famous photo of the time...
The coin is 72% silver and according to my scale weighs 0.725 troy ounces, making it 0.522 troy ounces of silver by my calculations, however I've seen other sites list is as 0.5208 troy ounces. Either way it's just over half a troy ounce of actual shiny silver!
