Did you watch the movie "The Wolf of Wall Street"? I watched it so many times and it's still one of my favorite movies. If you watched the movie you heard the famous dialogue of Lionardo Dicaprio - Sell me this pen.
This is one of the common questions on the interview board; especially when you're applying for a job in the marketing or sales division. Some people answer - "It's a very good pen. You can easily write for long hours." Some say - "The ink of this pen is extraordinary."
The question is can you sell a pen by telling all this bullshit! I think NO!
In the movie Jordan Belfort (Leonardo) gave his pen to his friend and asked him to sell it back to him. His friend says "Write down your name on the napkin." Jordan replied, "I don't have a pen". His friend then smiled and gave the pen back to him.
Supply and Demand!
Let's come to the main point. If you are a newbie to hive I can understand beside learning, you're here for earning some bucks. You are a salesmen here to sell your content, exactly like selling a pen to the customer. And consumers are buying your content or paying you for your content by upvoting.
So, now you understand there are lots of similarities between selling a product and earning by your article. You have to create demand for your article, you have to look for the opportunities. Before planning to write a content ask yourself, why people will be attracted to your post? Place yourself in the place of readers then you'll know what you should do with your content to make it engaging.
You can't just sell your pen by saying some stupid dialogue like - This pen works in the gravity or this pen is cheap so please buy it! You have to know your customer. You have to ask some questions to know your customer. Then you will go to the final approach after knowing the customer's habit. This is exactly what you'll do with your content in Hive!
You will look for the demand, what readers in the Hive community want to read. As I told you before you have to look for opportunities. Let me tell you a story. I also shared it on my another article.
I didn't make up this story, I heard it somewhere but I can't remember now.
One renowned shoe company suddenly decided that they will expand their business in Africa. So they sent one of their marketing executives to Africa. Let's give him a name - Executive John. He visited a remote city in central Africa and saw that 90% of the locals don't even wear shoes!
He headed back with a disappointed mind and told the management that - We can't do business in Africa! Because nobody wears shoes in that place!
The company refused to give up. So, a few months later they sent Marketing Executive Rick to check if there is any chance to do business in that remote place in Africa. Well, after arriving at the place Rick saw that what John told was right! He came back and suggested - Nobody wears shoes in that place. But if we can teach them the importance of wearing shoes, we'll capture a huge market.
In this story, we saw that John and Rick both are Marketing Executives, but with different attitude! John was like an average pen seller who is suffering to see the opportunity, but Rick found it.
So you have to create your opportunity here in Hive.
Why I can't earn like others on Hive?
Why am I earning only a few cents to my posts?
These are the burning questions that are always roaming around in the heads of the newcomers. Honestly, at the beginning, I also wondered why I wasn't able to earn like the people on the trending page. What I did wrong?
But then I found my track. I saw an opportunity and grabbed it. Still, I am a minnow, but I think I am going in the right direction.
You can't earn like others because you can't sell your content, your selling strategy isn't enough attractive, your writing isn't enough engaging to pull enough readers. Still, you are an average seller.
To sell your content learn about your buyers (readers), expertise yourself, and wait for the opportunity. And that's my novice advice for every newbie in this community.
