In 1953, Gloria Romero, a mestiza actress, was "uglified" in Confradia, where she played as "an extremely dark-skinned young woman whose complexion turned fair every time a magic candle was lit." Showbiz columnist Butch Francisco wrote about her being "blackened with the use of cosmetics" at around 5:30 a.m. and then her skin was "sore and red at the end of production."

In 2005, Filipino-Australian actress Anne Curtis wore "heavy prosthetic makeup for the role" Kampanerang Kuba. But Anne did not remain "forever ugly" because, in 2017, she was hailed as one of the 30 most beautiful women in the world by Hollywood-based website Buzznet.
In 2006, "beautiful Sunshine Dizon was turned into komiks ugly duckling" as Bakekang and "the application of one prosthetics appliance alone on [her] face took about an hour, two to three hours." She wore prosthetics again in Mundo Mo'y Akin where the storyline "explores the insatiable quest for beauty and wealth."
In Philippine TV/Film, the stereotyped "ugly" may look like these characters with black skin, bushy eyebrows, big nose, extremely large two front teeth, with a scarred or acne-riddled face and a body marred by physical deformity. But there’s always a collective answer to this so-called ugliness— a total makeover by magic or science!

Marlou Arizala shocked the Pinoywood industry when he appeared as the newly enhanced Xander Ford.
"Ford underwent cosmetic surgery on his nose and chin… He also underwent other procedures, including wrinkle removal, eyelash extension, lip pigmentation, and dental implants for an overall transformation."
So it's not about the appearance of a "mixed Filipino" per se that's important, it's about stories of social transformation from drab to fab or from rags to riches.
