Coyotes are known for their vocalization, and named after them as well -Canis latrans means 'barking dog'. When I took my dogs down near the bosque (woods) along the Rio Grande today, just outside of Albuquerque, New Mexico, we were in for an auditory treat. I noticed a few coyotes behind us, heading towards a patch of trees. They must have known there was a gathering afoot, and were coming to join their friends who were waiting. Soon after, they began to howl and whine in a beautiful cacophony, so I pulled out my phone to record. You can't see them, but after a bit you can see the Sandias to the east of the city.
