Hello everyone, how are you doing? Today I want to share a bit more about myself and my experience studying two university degrees at the same time😅.

Hola a todos, ¿cómo se encuentran? El día de hoy les quiero compartir un poco más de información acerca de mi, y mi experiencia estudiando 2 carreras universitarias al mismo tiempo😅.

It all goes back to 2021, when I graduated from high school and started looking for a career path. My family wanted me to study medicine, but it wasn’t a field I could see myself in, so I applied for Business Administration. However, that university hadn’t started classes yet, and the process at that time was quite slow. Still unsure about what I really wanted to study, and with my spot already secured, I decided to change my major to Public Accounting.

Todo se remonta al año 2021 cuando me gradúo del colegio y estoy en búsqueda de una carrera. En mi casa querían que estudiara medicina pero no es una carrera en la que me visualizaba, así que me postulé en Administración de Empresas, pero resulta que esa universidad aún no comenzaba clases y el proceso en ese tiempo era un poco tardado. Aún con dudas de lo que quería estudiar, y con el cupo aceptado, hago un cambio en mi solicitud de carrera a Contaduría Pública.

At that point, there was still no start date, and since I graduated from high school in June while other universities were already starting enrollments around September–October, I didn’t want to stay home doing nothing for months. So, I decided to enroll in a Language program with a major in English. But in the end, all the spots were taken, and while I was already there, I heard about another program that caught my attention — Business Development. I didn’t really know what it was about, but I heard it was similar to Business Administration (spoiler: it wasn’t, it actually covers much more), so I decided to enroll.

A todas estas no había fecha de inicio, y yo me gradúe del colegio en junio, y en otras universidades ya estaban comenzando a inscribir en septiembre-octubre, así que yo para no quedarme en mi casa sin hacer nada por meses, decido inscribirme en Idiomas mención inglés, pero al final se acabaron los cupos y estando ya en el lugar, escuché de una carrera que me llamó la atención, el cual era Desarrollo Empresarial. Yo sin saber de qué trataba escuché que era como Administración de empresas (spoiler: no lo era, la carrera abarca mucho más), pero decido inscribirme.

By the end of February 2022, I was finishing my first semester, and the news came that the other university was about to start classes. I decided to leave things to destiny and in God’s hands — to let everything flow and give my best (it’s worth mentioning that both universities are public). And that’s what I did, I worked harder than ever each semester.

Bueno, yo voy terminando mi 1er semestre a finales de febrero de 2022 y dan la noticia que la otra universidad ya iba a comenzar clases, y lo que hice yo fue dejarle las cosas al destino y en las manos de Dios, dejar que todo fluyera y dar todo de mi, (cabe resaltar que ambas universidades son públicas). Y eso fue lo que hice, esforzarme como nunca en cada semestre.

It’s important to mention that both universities operated under a semi-presential (blended) format, which made it easier for me to study in both. In Business Development, because we were coming out of the pandemic, it started that way, but as semesters went on, they began implementing in-person classes in the late afternoon and evening, three times a week. On the other hand, Accounting started mostly with virtual and distance classes because the university facilities were not in good condition — like many others in Venezuela due to the situation. However, as semesters went by, they gradually added some in-person classes, though only for certain subjects. We didn’t have a fixed schedule or day; classes could be in the morning or afternoon, but it was still mostly a distance-learning format.

Es necesario mencionar que ambas universidades estaban bajo la modalidad semi presencial, lo que me facilitaba estudiar en ambas. En Desarrollo empresarial porque veníamos de pandemia se comenzó así, pero a medida que avanzaron los semestres se fueron implementando clases presenciales de tarde-noche 3 veces por semana. Por otro lado, Contaduría comenzó con la mayoría de clases virtuales y a distancia, pero porque los espacios de la universidad no estaban aptos, la universidad estaba muy decaída como muchas en Venezuela por la situación. Sin embargo, a lo largo de los semestres fueron aumentando las clases presenciales pero en algunas materias, y no teníamos horario fijo ni día, así que podía ser en las mañanas o en las tardes, pero era más presente la modalidad a distancia.

There were semesters when I was finishing one program while just starting another, so sometimes things were manageable, but other times they weren’t — especially since I could be halfway through one semester in one program and just beginning in the other. It got complicated with all the homework, exams, and classes. Many times, I’d come home from evening classes in Business Development only to connect to an Accounting class right after. Sometimes my classes overlapped; occasionally, I got lucky when one was canceled, but other times I had to attend the in-person class while connecting to the online one using mobile data just to keep my attendance, hoping there wouldn’t be a test or presentation.

Habían semestres donde iba terminando una y comenzando apenas en la otra un nuevo semestre, así que las cosas eran tranquilas a veces, como otras no, ya que podía ir a mitad de semestre en una y comenzando en la otra universidad. Lo cual era complejo por la cantidad de tareas, exámenes y clases.Muchas veces llegaba de clases presenciales en la noche de Desarrollo para conectarme a una clase presencial de Contaduría. Incluso me llegaron a chocar clases en ambas carreras, algunas veces me salvaba porque cancelaban una, pero en otras, tenñia que asistir a la presencial y conectarme con datos móviles a la clase de distancia para no perder la asistencia, y rogando no tener examen o exposición.

I won’t deny that I had moments of stress and burnout when I felt like I couldn’t go on anymore. But I always gave my best and managed to stay organized, since the key is to stay disciplined, know how to prioritize, and manage your time well — even though it took a lot out of me. Still, no matter how busy I was, I always made sure to go out from time to time to relax, because it was necessary.

No niego que tuve momentos de colapso por el estrés donde sentía que ya no podía más, pero siempre di lo mejor de mi y me pude organizar, ya que el secreto está en el orden, saber priorizar las cosas y administrar bien tu tiempo, que me consumía bastante, pero por muy apretada que estaba, no dejaba de salir de vez en cuando para relajarme, ya que era necesario.

This is just a brief summary of my experience — I went through many other difficult moments along the way. If you liked this post, I could share more of my story in future parts. I’m still studying, but now only Public Accounting, since I finished Business Development a few months ago. I’m currently waiting for my graduation ceremony, and for now, I’m not working yet, as I’m waiting for the right moment to start — now that I finally have more free time.

Esto es muy por encima mi experiencia, tuve otros momentos difíciles dentro de ellas, si les gustó mi publicación, podría irles contando lo demás por partes. Aún sigo estudiando pero solamente Contaduría Pública, ya Desarrollo Empresarial la terminé hace unos meses, y mientras estoy esperando el acto de grado, y por los momentos sigo sin trabajar, aunque estoy esperando el momento adecuado para comenzar ya que ahora sí tengo más tiempo libre.
