What a great feeling to see big smiles and happy faces for a job well done! As a classroom adviser, I always see to it that I would provide guidance and support to my students in whatever activities they will engage in, be it inside or outside our classroom.
I always let the students think and create first before I would give my input. Because I want them to develop their critical thinking, resourcefulness, innovativeness, creativity, and other skills necessary for lifelong learning.
Before the celebration of World Teacher’s Day, my students and I were busy designing and creating things for the different competitions. I did not do the hands-on but I was just there to give suggestions and ideas to assure that they would come up with a unique design for the contest.
One of the contests for the Teacher’s Day celebration was the ADOORE, which was an appreciation door contest in school. They were given enough time to finish it.
And here are some quick snaps of my students as they were working together to make a paper mache using old newspapers. After the product was dried, they painted it to make different heavenly bodies.
While the others did the necessary things for the space theme, their other classmates were busy with the underworld theme. We also used other recyclable materials such as old CDs, old boxes, trash, old straws, old designs, and many more. We also used egg shells, sea shells, and other indigenous materials.
We came up with the idea of the theme for our door which was a combination of space and underwater. The students were not allowed to work during class hours, so during their available time, they worked for it using recyclable and indigenous materials.
Appreciation Door Winner
Here is the finished product for our door entry. With the space theme, there were planets and other heavenly bodies. The teachers then were the astronauts together and the students put their appreciation messages reflecting the space theme.
And with the underwater theme, me and my students were on the boat, with me as the Captain who guided them even in the darkest. They had put their baby pictures on the boat and the interesting part was the school principal as the mermaid.
During the awarding ceremony, we were so happy to be the Appreciation Door Winner. My students and I received the award on stage with the certificate of being the winner and a cash prize.
On the same day, I was so delighted that I was proclaimed the Makabata Choice Awardee.
Makabata Choice Awardee
I never expected that I would be the awardee for Science. All the learners in school will vote from Junior High School to Senior High School. This is the award given by the Supreme Secondary Learner Government of our school to honor and recognize the significant influence and unselfish dedication to the lives of the learners.
As I received the award, I suddenly reflected on how lucky I am to be appreciated and loved by my students both old and new. Here are some quick snaps as I received the trophy, certificate, and sack of rice. I was so grateful for all of these even if I never thought I would achieve this.
After the awarding, my students went to me and gave their tokens while I was seated at the covered court to watch the program. I was truly surprised and so happy as well.
And when the program ended, I took a lot of selfies on the stage with the bold words Teacher and Hero.
I so love the decor so I took the moment to be captured by the camera and have some candid shots.
Meanwhile, my students asked to have a group picture although we were not complete.
A Beautiful Surprise
Little did I know that some of them were waiting in our classroom because they had prepared a surprise for me.
And when I entered our classroom, my heart leaped up for the sweet gestures and surprises they had shown me.
A loud music was played as they had serenaded me with their beautiful dances, and each one of them offered tokens of love and gifts. I must say it is one of the priceless moments I had with them.
Before we left our classroom, we had enjoyed every moment as we captured all our beautiful moments together.
Before the day I started teaching, they were now my 13th batch of students. They were all so sweet and kind. And I cannot remember a day in this school year when they made me angry. I am so lucky to have very good students like them.
A lot of beautiful things happened on this day. Perhaps every moment was so precious and priceless as I celebrate it together with my dear students. Indeed, it was a glorious day!
