Try not communicating with your best friend or husband and see what happens - you go crazy or at least become real lonely.
Words and ideas are like breaths of life, living waters and nourishment for those of us who like good words and good ideas. So, whenever someone opines about the need for more good communication I simply say "Amen".
For those of us who communicate by writing regularly or often, our thinking and writing are interconnected like food, water and life itself. Writing is really a deep and foundational element of our being. I don't know too many writers who would think or say otherwise.
Now good communication for me is "connectedness communication" and that means and involves two things: understanding and knowing the person or people I am try to connect to or communicate with and then sharing and interacting in a way that is beneficial.
How beneficial you say? I mean being there in the here and now and just simply sharing time and a thought or two that has some value. Even a warm and heart-felt "Hello" has meaning, as simple as that may be.
Whenever I take time or make a moment to write I know it is a good thing to do. That sharing may be a fact, an idea, or a smile or laugh connected to a quote, a simple joke or a story. Writing often can be an expression of deep friendship or love, collegiality or business association, or an act of simple and plain humanity.
If you look at commentaries throughout the Internet, the Internet as we know it, you can find and read great and wonderful communication and that can be contrasted with some other writers who convey hatred, disdain, vindictiveness and all sorts of inane, vile or trivial writing. Now, of course, that is my judgment call and a personal opinion, nothing more, nothing less.
In summary, I believe that how we communicate and what we communicate are reflections of who we are, where we are and what we are about. As you write something today or tomorrow think about what you write and attempt to make it count in some small or larger way.
Choose your words well and carefully, develop a sense of purpose and remember this: anyone who thinks well and writes well surely may be planting the seeds for the harvest of better crops tomorrow for all who read and assimilate those written thoughts.
It really is that simple and that good. May good writing, thoughts and bountiful life harvests be yours, now and always!
