Hello all! I recently noticed an interesting friend joining us on the miner queue
gxt-1080-sc-00xx
A number of things to clear up. This appears on the surface to be unrelated to the recent supercomputer hack. The way to identify the supercomputer hack is to check if the miner is changing his active keys on steemd.com.
This miner does not appear to be changing his active keys. In addition to this, the name of the miner would suggest a gpu miner. It seems to be related to this product http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487244 but perhaps misspelled. This is one theory. However, I would also like to bring up that this is possibly the same supercomputer attack. In order for the supercomputer attack to work, one valid POW for each miner needs to be mined. This new miner has only mined one pow for each account so far. It is possible that this account could be trying to drive the price of steem down (to buy back in later) by making it appear as if there is a valid gpu miner on the network. If this miner legitimately was using a gpu miner, would he want to advertise his new toy? I personally don't think so.
Please tell me what you think in the comments. I would love to know any theories you guys have. Thanks for reading
