One of the oldest parts of the city and one of the most popular, especially amongst the millennial generation.
Ximending was once considered a red light district of sorts, housing underground brothels and facilitating prostitution. However it's retail and market popularity brought it out from this core business and now functions a lot like the Times Square of New York or Hong Kong.
Most of the buildings here are old and are dated back to the Japanese occupation but their age gives them character and is probably one of the reasons I visit here year after year.
