Stand atop the highest point between Hathersage and Grindleford and you’ll find heather-topped moorland laid out as far as the eye can see . . . then unexpectedly, a steep drop down into Hope Valley, which completely alters the landscape in seconds.
If you have a few hours, start on Hathersage Moor, where the heather blooms brightest in late summer, and wander through rocky outcrops such as Owler Tor, Higger Tor and Burbage Edge.
