Wow. Then it´s the same place indeed. Playacar is now the most expensive part of the city. There are hundreds of hotels in PDC these days. I wish I got to experience what it was like before. But mass tourism has been really spreading like a wild fire in this part of Mexico. When we first came to Akumal, for example, it was a lovely remote coastal village famous for its bay where the green sea turtles came to feed on the sea grass just meters from the shore. I saw dozens of them during my first visit. But then, more and more tourists started to roll in, driving the turtles away. On my last visit to Akumal, just a few years later, I didn´t see a single turtle :( Uncontrolled mass tourism destroys everything.
