There are plenty of people who won't fix a simple thing. Admittedly I wouldn't know what to do about a motor, and since I've never owned a pricey vacuum it falls under the "it probably costs less to replace than take to a repair shop" if it was something serious like that. But like, I've had people comment how impressed they were that I took it apart to fix a clog or changed a belt when one broke. Similarly when I opened up a TV to fix a loose solder.
