The not-a-real-debate thing is very prevalent in the States, too - both in discourse among people and in actual "debates" by politicians. Our whole system is so corrupt it's laughable at this point, but we have so many people who firmly believe we still have a functioning representative democracy. The only thing they represent are the 1%'s interests.
We also swim in propaganda - not just the "news" which is "infotainment," but Hollywood is pure US propaganda, too. Making it look like everyone is rich, we're the good guys always, etc. Did you know any movie with the military in it - including pure fantasy like the MCU - has military censors telling them what they can say to make the US look good, in exchange for loaning them actual gear to look realistic? Real uniforms and tanks and whatever in a movie = it was approved and edited by the actual military. That's not a conspiracy theory either, that's common knowledge.
And we won't get into pledging allegiance to the flag every day in school, lol. Americans look at North Koreans and think, how can they believe that propaganda? While believing in their own propaganda.
