That's Fijian for 'hello'.
I've finally made it to my first destination, not without complications, I should add.
I arrived at the Singapore airport on Sunday morning, and I was supposed to fly to Sydney early on Monday. When I tried to check in, I found out that I needed a visa, despite the fact that I'd only spend 15 hours on Sydney airport, which - in my opinion - is a transfer flight. Well, I learned that because I booked the flights on my own, and would have to change between two airlines, it doesn't count as a transfer, and they wouldn't let me on the flight. The only option I had left at that moment was to book a flight that would take me from Singapore directly to Fiji. This kind of decimated my budget, and I was downright dirt poor when I arrived to Fiji. Thankfully, my paycheck was already overdue for a couple of days and I got my money about 10 hours later.
I still had to wait until 9 pm local time on Singapore airport, where I messed around with long exposure photography in front of a travellator. Too bad that there weren't enough people there to make a perfect shot, of course all that had changed right after I put all the equipment back in the backpack. Anyways, here's the photo:
After boarding in Singapore, we flew to Nadi. The flight lasted for 10 tedious hours. I was awake for almost three days at this point, so I logged off from the real world for approximately half of the flight duration. When I woke up, my whole body hurt from the awkward position I slept in.
When we arrived in Nadi, there was a hostel shuttle waiting for me at the airport. They picked me up, and took me to what is going to be my home away from home for the next three weeks. I just had enough energy to go to the supermarket to buy something to eat, then I planned to relax during the afternoon and wait until about 9 pm to go to sleep. On my way to the supermarket - which is located about 500m from the hostel - I saw a horse eating some leaves at the side of the road, with no-one else in sight. I guess they just roam free around here :)
Today is officially my first whole day here in Nadi.
I got up at 6 a.m. to seize the day, but unfortunately the weather isn't too nice, the forecast is rain throughout the whole day, which means I can't really go exploring the island. On top of that, it's a national holiday in Fiji today. People can stay at home, so that they would be able to participate in general elections. I wish Europe would think of that :)
This means that pretty much everything is closed, even public transportation doesn't work today. I guess I have another day of nothing to do coming up. If the rain stops for a bit, I'll go out and take a couple of shots of my hostel and immediate surroundings, if it keeps on raining, I'll chime in again tomorrow.
