The karambit (or kerambit), personally I prefer the second pronunciation, is a knife originating from Southeast Asia. Some call it simply a claw.
It is found mainly in Filipino and Indonesian martial arts.
At first, this knife was used mainly for agricultural tasks, like many weapons (nunchaku or saï for example). Nowadays, it is mainly used for demonstrations of martial arts and also for training, there are many karambits in wood or aluminum.
The American or occidental version is different. Indeed, originally both sides of the curved blade are sharp, while the American version has only one sharp blade, most of the time it is the inner blade that is sharpened.
For my part, I knew this weapon during my classes in Kali Filipino. This is where I learned that in the Philippines the karambit was mainly used by Muslims. The majority of Christians refuse to use it or to learn it, because it served during the wars to the Muslims to tear and / or to burst the eyes of the Christians.
Generally, these knives are the size of a pocket knife. But know that there are models the size of a sword. I imagine it must be easy to cut a head with this kind of weapon.
Filipinos are a very poor country, and nowadays many of these traditional knives from this archipelago are made from recycled metals. But at the time, we could find some with meteorite stone blades. I have already seen for sale and I can tell you that it is not given :)
