As various resolutions are being taken for the new year ahead
and numerous ideas conjured up in the interest of a better life,
we decided to do this little book suggestion post to incite reflection,
to contemplate our motivations and objectives.
Are we being realistic?
Why or who are we taking these resolutions for? And why do we as humans,
always seek to find happiness outside the present moment…
Generica by Will Ferguson
This book is just like candy, very hard to put down
and a great piece of fiction that gives you something to ponder at the same time.
The setting is a major publishing house,
a big machine that pumps out reading material for the masses...
We follow the story of Edwin De Valu, an underappreciated employee, another cog in the machine's wheel who is given the task to find yet another self-help book for his boss to publish (because we all know that these types of books are big sellers). So he fishes out a manuscript from the slushpile, written by some obscure author, that promises it all (lose weight, be rich, find love...) Then the action begins...
Very unexpectedly, this particular peculiar manuscript ends up actually working! It starts having an effect on society, people start acting differently, they are happy but somewhat oddly blind and altered. The balance shifts...
Truly I cannot say more, I will leave you the pleasure of reading the full story!
Canadian author Will Ferguson spins a tale of entertaining, thought provoking and hilariously brilliant dark humour. A must read book that also sheds light on mankind's obsession with finding a easy way to happiness.
The iffs...
When looking for happiness we often say things like, if I lost a little weight I'd be happy... If I had more money, if I eat better, if I stop smoking,
if I, if I,…
We have a tendency to look outwards for answers and solutions we already know on a deeper inner level.
A reflection for the new year…
It is only a personal opinion, but the actual deed of reflecting on the past year is in itself the most important part of the process. Just the focus, the attention given to this creates change. Realising only the fact that at the present moment, this is what I think and it is something that would be beneficial if it were done more often.
Taking the time to listen and be aware of our inner journey, gives insight and true power.
Resolutions are self imposed challenges, they can be broken and if they are will inevitably lead to guilt (a form of punishment).
This quote from SMR sais it well...
True happiness is always available to us, but first we have to create the environment for it to flourish.
So our new year wishes for you all on steemit:
Listen to your heart's wisdom, be your own master, follow your inner truth for there lies all the answers you need and were searching for. Be kind to yourself as you tread the path of your unique precious human life. Much love to all! A new year begins for this community to grow, help each other, start being honest, start anew in an enlightened way, different from the world we already live in.
