Hey there,

after a while I decided to get into mining moneros (XMR) on my PC. Moneros are said to be ASIC-safe and can be mined on casual hardware - so I gave it a try.

I started mining some days ago on two different setups. I first tried to mine with the Monero-GUI Wallet, but this seems to be disappointing - I did not get any reward after a whole day hashing. The Wallet also only allowed CPU mining aht lower hash-rates.

After tweaking, searching and playing around, I ended up with a pool solution: pool.xmrsupport.com seems to fit my needs.

My PC Setups:
Intel i7 4770, 24GB RAM, GeForce 1070
Intel i7 3610Q, 8 GB RAM, GeForce 660m (Lenovo Y580 Notebook)

Mining Software:
CPU_STAK https://github.com/fireice-uk/xmr-stak-cpu/releases
GPU_STAK https://github.com/fireice-uk/xmr-stak-nvidia/releases (nvidia)

Outcome
my PC CPU calculats about 140-160 hash per second (h/s) , the GPU does approx 600 h/s - giving the PC a total of ~700-750 h/s
my Notebook does approx 50-100h/s on each device.

Mining to the pool is a good advices - you earn some shares of the mined block, even if you don't mine the whole block alone. You are rewarded for your work.
Keeping current electricity prices in mind, and calculating with ~400W, mining moneros is working out to a little positive balance at the end of the month - getting rich? No Way!

I am testing and playing around. Maybe I keep up the hashing, until the pool pays me once - supportxmr.com pays at 0.3 XMR - I am earning 0.01 - 0.02 XMR a day - so I may do this for one month, just to see how this all works.
