Apiary: late September 30/09/2020
As every year-end it is important to give an report of the season that has just passed.
We lived a 2020 very "characteristic" if we can say so. On the one hand we had covid-19 that literally blocked the civilized world, with its frenzy and consumerism.
On the other hand, we have the animal world, which for almost 4 months was allowed to "breathe".
Like many other animals, bees have taken advantage of this period of peace, to be able to pluck cleaner flowers and drink water from less acid rain.
But while on the one hand the impact of pollution has been declining during the period of lockdown.
The environmental damage already present has not hesitated to make itself felt.We came from a very rainy 2019 season, with an almost tropical climate,2020 was the opposite.
At least here in Italy from the beginning of May to mid-September has hardly ever rained. Thus leading to a situation of drought that has overwhelmed entire agro-food sectors.
Even our little bees had suffer the heat, as there were no blooms rich in nectar during the summer, the bees found themselves with a deficit during the warmer season.
This resulted in the collapse of the weaker families and the need to feed the larger ones, which would never have been able to feed the entire population of bees within them.
In conclusion it was a very difficult season, but there was no lack of satisfaction. In the next post dedicated to bees, I will show you a little news!
