Pointless I'd think. I can't pretend to know exactly what was in their minds but anything other than "I was being a greedy opportunist" would sound like a total lie. And there were some who were too dim-witted or lazy to be up to speed on what a blockchain is and means, but the majority share fell into the greedy opportunist bin.
