Just a simple little story, but worth thinking about in general is wildlife is not be trifled with.

Few years back I worked a private security contractor in the Drakensberg South Africa. Still miss the place as I'm a bush baby or jungle nut by nature. I ended up the local snake catcher and came across snakes like

Puff Adders which is a lathargic viper which is why they often get stepped on and produces one of the most painfull bites known apart from the fact that the toxin is going to mess you badly and often worse

and Rinkhals or Mozambican Spitting Cobra

which is a territorial Cobra member which can very accurately cause you great pain in the eyes and if bitten the neurotoxin will be most unpleasant to say the very least. I removed many of these away from people and back into the bush without any issues.

I came across troops of mountain Baboons

daily and staying calm, yes assertive created a respect and a limited friendship which was fine by me as a healthy respect for something that can kill you is always wise. No issues to report there.

This chap is the one that caught me off guard, the Bushbuck

Not this one, but a male of the specie as illustrated was trapped in a fenced vegetable garden when I came across him and tried to chase him out through a gate I had left open for the purpose. I didn't stop to ask how he got in as the fence was very high I thought maybe someone had closed him in there by accident. Nope, these are crawlers. He came in through a whole at the bottom of the fence. My approach was shoe shoe shoe when this chap turned, his main came up and in less than 3 seconds he had punctured my upper leg twice and virtually all the way through, almost severing my femoral artery.

The next few weeks was nasty trying to walk on a large muscle damaged that badly, but I'm here where many that have come into close contact with these did not walk away. Rule in Africa is anything that has bush next to it's name such as Bushbuck and Bushpig should be left alone.

Animals are great and nature is wonderful, enjoy it responsibly
