Sleepovers are awesome and often gets you into trouble. This my friends and I learnt and experienced often. We grew up in a small community on the outskirts of Kimberley in the Northern Cape of South Africa. Google Kenilworth Kimberley and you'll see it.

Place has a community playpark, community pool, community hall where singers entertained and the occasional projector movie was viewed.

There was no need for locked doors and closed windows, we knew freedom and safety so fun was the thing as it should be for kids. Explore, learn and play was all we focused on. My parents allowed one sleepover a month and only to the homes of parents they knew well and people who had the same value systems as themselves. We had many friends so Friday early evenings were times for cricket played in the streets as very few people left there areas which kept traffic down, people were very careful with speeds they traveled in suburbs because of kids on bicycles and or playing outside.

We would play pranks on people in the neighbourhood by ringing their doorbells and running away. You knew who would find this funny and who not so we respectfully avoided annoying the wrong folks. Sleepovers also meant that you went to bed a little later as we would get movies on vcr to watch after having some outdoor fun.

The movies were picked by the parents so nothing that a child's mind didn't need to deal with, I wish parents these days would have some backbone in regards to protecting their children instead of using the excuse that they want to be their child's friend as a cop out from being the parent and having to make decisions their kids might not like.

The group of friends I grew up with were really nice and I still hear from some of them from time to time. We grew up with strict God fearing parents and were raised with the same value systems. Why does the new world of today find so much fault with children who are well mannered, respectful, God fearing and dare I say white and I throw that in there as I googled street cricket during the 80's and apartheid came up. Really irritates me that one of the biggest if not the biggest search engines in the world can be that discriminative toward the past of children who had nothing to do with the political decisions of their time. I have to hear the rubbish about "they benefited" quite often, but that is the cowardly response of someone with an agenda.

The world needs true equality and respect. Nothing else will do the job and neither of those come free, they are earned.
