Hello steemians!!
Am new here(the newest minnow) heard about the daily celestial challenge from bodak@bodak(who happens to be the one who introduced me to steemit), so I decided to try out the challenge which is initiated by sirknight@sirknight.

Today's theme is Light! Now according to my findings there are different themes for different days, i will post them at the end of this post so you also can participate!!
I will be talking about some

                FACTS ABOUT THE SUN

  1. The sun has been studied and observed since ancient times and it is still being studied by astronomers and learning new things about the sun, which is the center of the solar system.

  2. The sun is a star, just like all other stars in the sky , it looks different because the sun is many times closer to us than the others ,which allow us to know the intensity and see how bright it is.

  3. It is still very far from earth about 93million miles or 150kilo metres away.
It takes sunlight 8minutes to reach the earth because light travels fast .

  4. The sun is very large, more than 100times the width of the earth.
It is the largest object in the solar system.

  5. The sun is made up of gases mainly hydrogen with a little helium(named after the greek god of sun helios) and some traces of other elements.
These gases are held together by the sun's gravity which creates intense heat and pressure that it causes nuclear fusion(a process were hydrogen fuse to create helium at its core)

  1. The sun's core is 16million degree celsius, by the time heat from the sun's core reaches its surface it will have dropped to about 10thousand degrees fahrenheit or 55,100 degrees celsius.

  2. The sun does not have a solid surface, the gases surface is not calm, it is constantly moving and changing with sun spots(dark patches of cooler temperature) solar flares,or eruptions of high energy radiation frequently marking it's surface.

  3. All the planets in the solar system orbits around the sun, the sun in turn orbits around the center of the galaxy in the milky way.

  4. It takes the earth one year to orbit around the sun but the sun according to scientists will take 250million years to complete an orbit of the galaxy.

  5. The sun is important for life on earth, without the energy of the sun radiation, the earth will be dark, cold and unhabitable.
