I really tried making the title less cultish. Maybe I should change it to Satanist but I will be damned if you recommend activist or some bullshit -ism.
Anyway, I think it was about two maybe three days ago I happened on a personality type video in my youtube feed again. I watched it and the person just happen to make sense. Kinda.
I think it was one of these vids where the guy parodies all 16 personality types in different situations.
A few months before I did take the Myers-Briggs Personality Quiz, because it is a fucking quiz so get off my back... and it is interesting. Shut up.
The results from that test were ISTP.
So following that I proceeded to skip the videos about all the types and focus only on the ones about my type. A few videos down the line I started thinking there is something off. For example I really liked this one, which was one of the first ones I watched.
I think I like it because it is quite a negative video and that means it has a big focus on the weaker emotional and social aspects.
Other videos about ISTP's were more comprehensive and that is when I realised what it was that kept bothering me about "being" that type. The focus on mastery.
I don't care about mastering any skill really, and I don't go that deep in learning something either. I am definitely more a jack of all trades and master of none.
No biggy, I remember taking a personality test before and although I could not find the results it was definitely one with an "I" and a "P" only the middle two letters I am not too sure about but since I do not think it is the "S" which is that sensing and mastery part then it must be the "N" and second it must be the "T" because the alternative is feeling and really feeling sucks no matter where you put it.
So I am INTP. Simple. So now I can tell Youtube that and find only relevant information. Which I for the most part did. I really like this guys videos, although he is a bit... Soft.
He does make sense and clearly has spent the time considering everything. I think definitely worth a listen even if you are just into happy-clappy self-improvement.
If anyone calls me listening to these videos self-improvement.
So with that and a few podcasts, I have decided that I am definitely an INTP... for now.
Now I am no expert, I have only been binging the info the past few days and hardly did the effort to understand the individual components. I like the idea of it all and how things work together and although it is seemingly just 4 definitive characteristics the resulting variables combined with experience is infinite.
That is nice isn't it, here you have something with seemingly infinite variables at the foundation of a persons wants and needs, throw in a bit schizophrenia and account for that and their culture then sure you have a cure-all.
Ok maybe not a cure-all since you still have to deal with pesky free will and feelings and stuff. It is a start though, a nice way to categorize for me at least my actions and intent.
If I can apply it to myself I can apply it to others and with that I can also do a better job of anticipating and avoiding.
I can assert pressure to situations knowing I am playing to my strengths instead of allowing a weaker side of me getting me into trouble. Like all the times I say yes just to get rid of people.
Yip. Agree to suffer.
So it is a nifty little thing. If anything. I will be reading but mostly just listening out of curiosity to more podcasts on the subject.
Since it all falls in the realm of psychology I think the benefit is that you have this whole other side to a field which starts forming part of philosophy because of the understanding yourself nature. What is better than understanding yourself? Well, being able to know for certain that other people are as stupid as you assume they are. Say for example you are in charge of bringing back the death penalty. You have to know this stuff.
Oh and...
Totes, INTP bitches.
