Tweens. Not children, not teenagers, something in between. My oldest is 12, and in the past year she has changed so much.
She's gotten taller, her tastes are changing, her very face is changing, but in the next 5 or 6 years she's going to change even more. This tween stage is short and precious, a perfect stage to immortalize with a portrait session. Friends are everything to her, and she happens to have a beautiful set of close friends that are all in this stage - 11 and 12.
So I did what any photographer mama would do - scheduled a photo session. And wow am I glad I did.
Each of these girls is so unique, so beautiful and dear.
We wandered the beautiful Downtown Cary, joking and laughing.
They climbed a tree...
...and showed me their favorite books in the library, which they begged to go in.
We got several portraits of each girl, and some unposed shots of them messing around.
We plan to recreate this session in 5 years. They will all be 16 and and 17, and once again will have changed so much!
Did you do a tweens session for your kids? Are you thinking about it? This season goes by so fast, and with all of the challenges it brings (and there are many!) it comes with a unique beauty that is here and gone, and I will treasure these images for years and years to come!!
