Location of the Musical Notes on the Piano

In the last post we saw some of the most important things to start in this instrument and it was the visual aspect or rather the way in which we see the instrument.

If you have not yet read lesson number 1 Here you left the link,

But let's talk about what we are going to learn today I imagine that you have already heard of the musical notes because they are heard in music and television programs for children but if you do not know it do not worry today I will teach you

In music there are 12 notes and they are divided into two groups

  • 7 natural notes
  • 5 altered notes

These notes we must know by heart because for my concept is the most basic and essential music.

Natural Notes

Do, Re, Mi, Fa, Sol, La, Si

Altered notes

Do, Re, Fa, Sol, La

(These notes are not equal to the natural ones because they are alterations of themselves)

Now we not only need to know them but place them on the piano because the correct union of those notes are the ones that create the harmonic and melodic basis of every song, theme or piece of music. Now remember that in the last post we spoke that there were 7 white keys and 5 keys black, the seven white keys are the same seven natural notes and the five black keys are the same five altered notes and are located as follows

NameLocationVisual Location
DOWe place it before the group of two blacks
REwe place it in the middle of the group of two blacks
MIwe place it after group two black
FAwe place it before the group of three blacks.
SOLwe place it in the middle of the first two blacks of the group of three blacks
LAwe place it in the middle of the last two blacks of the group of three blacks.
SIwe place it after the group of three blacks.
DO O RE ALTEREDwe place it in the first black of the group of two blacks
RE O MI ALTEREDwe place it in the second black of the group of two blacks.
FA O SOL ALTEREDwe place it in the first black of the group of three
SOL A LA ALTEREDwe place it in the second black of the group of three blacks.
LA O SI ALTEREDwe place it in the third black of the group of three blacks

It is important to emphasize that we need to analyze with the image all the locations to be able to visually know each of the notes on the piano.
