Almost all charging cables stolen
When we were in Norway the power cord stayed with the car. Both ends plugged in, one side to the car the other to the station. Not cords to steal.
Charging cables are being stolen in Norway mostly by travellers from Eastern Europe.
Since you said you're in Denmark, is that how copper is spelled in Danish? I was going to make a polite correction, but maybe you defaulted with that word
(like, in English we say Copen-haygan with an obvious P sound)
Steal $50 worth of copper to do thousands of dollars worth of damage. This is why we can't have nice things.
How much is cobber going for these days?
This is never going to stop. Tweakers will steal literally anything, bolted down or not. People don’t understand the psychosis that comes with being that spun out, it’s parallel to hoarders. They think anything they steal/save is going to be worth money, that’s what the hoarding of garbage and stolen junk comes from, they think they’re going to be able to sell it all.
Law enforcement faces a perpetual uphill battle if they go after the drug addicted thieves.
It would arguably be easier for government agencies to target the copper distributors who are receiving the stolen property. Add a layer of bureaucracy to redistribution of raw materials to clamp down on illegal supplies.
Love all the idiots discussing failed US policy while ignoring the fact that this is a charging station in a Scandinavian country
Most states in Australia combat this now by requiring ID to scrap metal and a business number to scrap more than $150.
Many construction sites here in Finland run Alu-copper and Aluminium cables for site electricity, because nobody is stealing that shit and they are lighter to work with.
The trend is going towards alu-copper and aluminium.
Literally the cable manufacturers list as one of the features for alu-copper and aluminium cables, that they are less likely to be stolen. Well... The elecricians will pick up every fucking bit of them and take them, even if they were told not to do it because the cables were purchased by the site and not part of their contract.
For how much these setups cost to install, you’d think they’d figure out some kind of locking mechanism? Like he cord wont come out until you swipe your card and the transaction wont close until you secure it? I’ll take my check now, thank you.
Some areas are placing these up on ten-foot poles and having them lower when you scan your card.
The problem is:
Crackheads can climb.
It doesn’t stop them from stealing the cable while you’re charging.
More moving parts to break.
Cables should be locked in cage and released when paying
Give heavier penalties for scrap yards buying stolen copper
Oh cool, it’s wireless now
High trust infrastructure, with low trust members of society
Why dont we just use the cables that come with the cars instead, plug them into the charger so that’s nothing to steal?
I always thought it be smarter for the car to have the cable or mark them so they can’t at least sell as is and have to strip. Making it extra hard to do that while having marketing’s of where it came from. That or add cameras and sensors that start to buzz. Especially as voltages go up and a thinner wire is needed.
I have an EV but haven’t gone on any big road trips with it yet due to worries like this. Longest trip was about 5.5 hours round trip and while I got to my destination without needing to charge, I had to on the way home. I had to stop at three separate spots because the first one had error messages and didn’t register my vehicle for some reason, and the second had cables like this or tampered with in some way. I’m hesitant about going on long cross-country trips when I was 1 for 3 after driving just half a state.
why are they not the other way. A plug you bring your car to and plug your wire into them?
Don't worry, duracell is here to help.
