These photos are sometimes called "bench pictures". I don't know what it is that makes a man on a bench look more photogenic. Is it the bench or the person?

When I did my "homework" for this article, I discovered that photos of people sitting on benches have been popular since the very beginning, or prehistory, of photography, regardless of geolocation - from Canada to Australia.
