On Sunday afternoon, I walked around the river. Usually there are many ducks swimming in it, but today I noticed something unusual: a pair of Common Mergansers.
It's easy to distinguish between the male and female. The male is a dignified gentleman with a sleek black head, while the female has a brown head with an etravagant hairstyle. In some bird species, females are more showy than males.
V neděli odpoledne jsem si zašel kolem řeky. Obvykle na ní plave spousta kachen, ale dnes tam bylo něco jiného: párek morčáků velkých.
Rozeznat samce a samici je snadné. Samec je seriózní pán s ulízaným černým účesem, zatímco samice má hnědý přeliv s extravagantní chocholkou. I u některých ptáků jsou samice větší parádnice než samci.
