How Many Veterans Organizations Are There? More than 45,000 nonprofits devoted to veterans and their families are registered with the IRS.

Who Are They? The majority of veterans nonprofits are posts or organizations. The next largest group of veterans nonprofits are charitable organizations. The remaining fall among several other categories of non-charitable nonprofits.

What Do Veterans Organizations Do? Help veterans transition to civilian life. Help veterans file claims and negotiate the Veterans Administration system. Help wounded veterans heal physically and mentally and cope with challenges presented by long-term injuries. Assist wounded veterans’ families and caregivers among other things.

How can I Help? While money can be a help I have found that many want someone to listen. The job I have puts me in contact with many veterans that want to tell the stories and some do not want to talk about it. While those that have not served will never truly understand what they have went through can still be sympathetic . (Sympathetic: feeling, showing, or expressing sympathy. synonyms: compassionate, caring, concerned, understanding, sensitive.) Thanks for reading.
