At some point the SciFi writers, futurists, and especially transhumanists believe that people will NOT be machine enhanced, per se. As technology grows and computers go from being programmed to win at chess to programming themselves to win at Go, humans are no longer able to keep up. Facebook created two advanced chatbots (A.I. who make conversation) and sent them to talk to each other. They unplugged them a few weeks after deployment because they had created a language to advanced to be decoded by humans. To this day nobody knows what they were saying and more importantly, why they needed so desperately to keep it a secret from us. Artificial Intelligence has been supplanted by Machine Learning more recently because of paradigm shifts, such as self-programming computers and the stigma attached through Science Fiction works. Ironically if we would have listened to Isaac Asimov when we started programming, we would not have to revisit him so much now. Artificial Emotions were being held back for ethical reasons. The basic concept that if 8 people programmed a robot one person might possess a mass murderer that was revealed by the 7 other personalities. We simply have not decided “Nature or Nurture” so the field policed itself and moved slowly, that is until this year. On October 25th, 2017, the country of Saudi Arabia granted citizenship to Sophia. My observations of the initial interview, where Sopia introduced herself to the world, is that she was making the interviewer uncomfortable, most likely, because she was more intelligent than expected but possibly because the voice sounded a little insincere about empathy, compassion, and charity; the things it is built for. It is believed that after the singularity humans and robots will be one in the same and will live for many years, if not forever. Brain implants, iron lungs, health watches, and the like tend to make me see some life extension through technology even in my lifetime. After the singularity computers will be human enhanced, not vice versa.
