Hey everyone! it's been a long time since I published something in this community... or publish anything at all 馃槄 but as a comeback I decided to post a review from a somewhat old movie called Possession, a thriller starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, Lee Pace and Michael Landes; it came out in 2009.
I watched this movie when it was released, mainly because of Sarah just for being the actress who played Buffy.
隆Hola a todos! ha sido buen tiempo desde la 煤ltima vez que publiqu茅 algo en esta comunidad... o cualquier publicaci贸n del todo 馃槄, pero como regreso decid铆 postear una review de una pel铆cula algo vieja llamada Personalidad M煤ltiple (Possession) un thriller estelarizado por Sarah Michelle Gellar, Lee Pace y Michael Landes; sali贸 en el 2009.
Characters
Sarah Michelle Gellar is Jess, a young working woman devoted to her husband with whom she shares a special connection ever since they met.
Michael Landes plays Ryan, Jess' husband, he's kind, loving and hard worker who finds time to leave romantic details to his wife very often.
Lee Pace is Roman, Ryan's troubled brother who recently got out of prison and deals with the fact that no one expects anything good from him.
Synopsis
Jess and Ryan are happily married living a quiet life in a house outskirts San Francisco, they travel a lot together, have plans for their future and do as many activities together they can in their spare time, it's easy to see that they are deeply in love... But their calm gets interrupted when Ryan's brother Roman gets out of prison and stays in their home, Ryan knows Roman has had a though time and just wants to help him get to his feet but Jess isn't comfortable with Roman being at their home, she's scared of him because of his volatile personality, even their dog doesn't trust Roman 馃槀.
Roman gets upset after overhearing the couple talk about him and how he's a hopeless case so the next day he packs and leaves, but since he just got out of prison he's still being watched, he's not allowed to leave the estate. Jess sees him leave with his things and calls her husband who was at the city running errands, Ryan assures Jess he'll find Roman before he does something rushed.
Roman is driving carelessly, both brothers drive through the Golden Gate bridge which just happens to be covered in fog causing them front crash with each other.
Due to their injuries both end up in a coma, Jess is devastated by this and realizes she took her husband for granted, always receiving love letters from him but never answering, never fully express to him how much she loves him.
Months go by and none of the brothers wake up until one day Jess gets a call from the doctor saying one of them finally reacted, Jess rushes to the hospital hoping to see her husband but the one who's awake is Roman and to her surprise, when the doctor asks him questions such as what's his name or what does he remember he answers his name is Ryan and remembers his wedding 馃槺.
Jess rejects Roman even though he dresses, behaves and talks like Ryan, she can't understand what's happening and why he insists on saying he's Ryan, even going through hipnosis he claims to be Ryan, Jess wonders how is it possible that Roman knows things only Ryan would know, like things he said to her while they were alone in their trips, and also she was surprised when Rowan gave her a necklace that Ryan said he would repair for her before the accident.
As time goes by, Jess starts to believe that somehow both brothers changed bodies, one possessing the other, also the dog follows Roman the same way it used to follow Ryan, and Roman makes Jess remember that he (Ryan) promised that he would always be with her no matter what.
Both start to be happily together again, Jess fully trusts now that he's her husband and ends up pregnant, this makes both really happy... but yeah, happiness in this kind of films isn't forever, so their bubble breaks when while at the doctor for a check on her pregnancy, Jess notices her necklace is causing a rash, she's been using that necklace for years without any reaction, the only time she stop using it was when it broke.
Intrigued by this Jess heads home to place the necklace in a box where she keeps all special things, including all of Ryan's letters he always sends. But she sees that her box has marks, as if someone forced the lock to open it, nothing's missing but as she goes over the letters reality drowns her, in the letters Ryan wrote for her with the details that made their trips special, all the details that Roman recalled when she asked proof that he was indeed Ryan, also she finds the real necklace, the one that was broken... Ryan's not in Roman's body, it was Roman just pretending, turns out he always had envy of Ryan's life and wanted to take over.
Jess confronts Roman, and when he knows he can't keep pretending anymore he attacks Jess. During the fight, at the hospital Ryan's body was reacting, as if he sensed his wife was in danger, he opens his eyes when Roman is about to kill Jess who suddenly and in apparently pain claims something's wrong and touches her barely showing belly, Roman stops for a beat, Jess takes advantage of this and in self defense kills Roman.
Later she learns that his real husband reacted for some minutes but unfortunately had a seizure and isn't responding anymore, he's still alive but again deep in a coma.
Jess goes on with her pregnancy, in her heart that baby is Ryan's and she promises Ryan she'll wait for him, and in the end when she had her real necklace repaired and was putting it on, we get a quick glimpse of Ryan next to her offering to help her with the necklace, she feels him, turns around but he's not there... although she knows that he's always at her side as once he promised.

Sarah Michelle Gellar es Jess, una mujer joven y trabajadora devota a su marido con quien comparte una conexi贸n especial desde que se conocieron.
Michael Landes es Ryan, el esposo de Jess, es amable, amoroso y trabajador, quien encuentra tiempo para dejar detalles rom谩nticos a su esposa muy seguido.
Lee Pace es Roman, el hermano problem谩tico de Ryan quien recientemente sali贸 de prisi贸n y lidia con el hecho de que nadie espera nada bueno de el.
Resumen
Jess y Ryan est谩n felizmente casados viviendo una vida tranquila en una casa a las afueras de San Francisco, viajan mucho juntos, tienen planes para su futuro y hacen cuanta actividad puedan juntos en su tiempo libre, es f谩cil ver que est谩n muy enamorados... Pero su calma es interrumpida cuando Roman, el hermano de Ryan sale de prisi贸n y se queda en su casa, Ryan sabe que Roman ha tenido un tiempo dif铆cil y quiere ayudarlo a recuperarse pero Jess no est谩 c贸moda con la presencia de Ryan en su hogar, le teme por su personalidad vol谩til, hasta ni su perro conf铆a en Roman 馃ぃ.
Roman se molesta luego de escuchar a la pareja hablar sobre el y como es un caso perdido as铆 que al siguiente d铆a empaca y se va, pero por ser reci茅n salido de prisi贸n a煤n est谩 en custodia, no tiene permitido dejar el estado. Jess lo ve irse con sus cosas y llama a su marido quien estaba en la ciudad haciendo mandados, Ryan le asegura a Jess que encontrar谩 a Roman antes de que haga algo apresurado.
Roman maneja imprudentemente, ambos hermanos manejan a trav茅s del puente Golden Gate el cual estaba cubierto en niebla ocasionando que ambos choquen de frente entre ellos.
Debido a sus heridas ambos terminan en coma, Jess queda devastada y se da cuenta que dio por hecho todas las acciones de su marido, siempre recibiendo cartas de amor pero nunca respondiendo, nunca le expres贸 ella abiertamente cuanto lo ama.
Los meses pasan y ninguno de los hermanos despierta hasta que un d铆a Jess recibe una llamada del doctor informando que uno de ellos finalmente reaccion贸, Jess se apresura al hospital esperando ver a su marido pero quien despert贸 es Roman, y para sorpresa de ella, cuando el doctor pregunta a Roman cosas como su nombre o qu茅 recuerda, el responde que su nombre es Ryan y recuerda su boda 馃槺.
Jess rechaza a Roman aunque se viste, se comporta y habla como Ryan, ella no puede entender qu茅 est谩 sucediendo y por qu茅 el insiste en decir que es Ryan, incluso hasta estando bajo hipnosis sigue diciendo es Ryan. Jess se pregunta como es posible que Roman sepa cosas que solo Ryan podr铆a, como cosas que le dijo durante uno de sus viajes estando solos los dos, tambi茅n se sorprende cuando Roman le da un collar que Ryan qued贸 de reparar para ella antes del accidente.
Conforme pasa el tiempo, Jess comienza a creer que de alg煤n modo ambos hermanos cambiaron de cuerpo, uno poseyendo al otro, y ya tambi茅n el perro sigue a Roman igual como hac铆a con Ryan, y Roman le recuerda a Jess que 茅l (Ryan) le prometi贸 que siempre estar铆a con ella sin importar qu茅.
Ambos comienzan a ser felices juntos otra vez, Jess ya conf铆a plenamente que se trata de su esposo y termina embarazada, haciendo que ambos sean aun m谩s felices... pero si, la felicidad en este tipo de pel铆culas no es eterna, su burbuja se revienta cuando estando con una doctora para un chequeo de su embarazo, Jess se da cuenta que el collar le est谩 causando alergia, ha usado ese collar por a帽os sin ninguna reacci贸n y el 煤nico periodo que lo dej贸 de usar fue cuando se rompi贸.
Intrigada, Jess regresa a casa para colocar el collar en una caja donde guarda todas las cosas que le son especiales, incluyendo las cartas que Ryan le escribi贸 con los detalles que hac铆an sus viajes juntos especiales, todos los detalles que Roman relat贸 cuando le pidi贸 pruebas de ser Ryan, adem谩s encuentra el collar real, que aun sigue roto... Ryan no est谩 en el cuerpo de Roman, siempre fue Roman fingiendo, resulta que siempre tuvo envidia de la vida de Ryan y quer铆a adue帽arse de ella.
Jess confronta a Roman y cuando el se da cuenta de que no puede seguir fingiendo ataca a Jess.
Durante la pelea, en el hospital, el cuerpo de Ryan comienza a reaccionar, como si presintiera que su esposa est谩 en peligro, abre los ojos cuando Roman est谩 por matar a Jess quien repentinamente y con aparente dolor alega que algo est谩 mal y se toca su vientre que aun no muestra mucho, Roman se detiene por un momento, Jess toma ventaja y en defensa propia mata a Roman.
M谩s tarde, le informan que su esposo real reaccion贸 por unos minutos pero desafortunadamente tuvo un ataque y ya no est谩 respondiendo nuevamente, sigue vivo pero aun en coma.
Jess contin煤a con su embarazo, en su coraz贸n ese beb茅 es de Ryan y le promete a su marido que lo esperar谩; al final cuando ahora s铆 manda reparar su collar real y se lo estaba colocando, podemos ver un vistazo de Ryan junto a ella ofreciendo su ayuda para poner el collar, ella lo siente, se da la vuelta y 茅l no est谩 ah铆... aunque ella sabe que el siempre est谩 a su lado como prometi贸.
Opinion
This movie is not the typical thriller with ghosts or supernatural happenings, although during the whole story it makes you believe it's a real possession... a freaky friday like situation, what makes it think that they truly change bodies is that when they're getting first aid at the bridge, their blood mixes at the same time that Roman is getting a charge and Ryan CPR, the movie shows that in flashbacks when Roman is being hypnotized to find out what he remembers from the accident.
Also Roman really takes it seriously in acting as his brother, he emulates every single detail like habits, face expressions, it's easy to believe while watching that he is indeed Ryan.
It's not an excellent movie but it certainly catches your attention and makes you wonder what will happen next.
Opini贸n
Esta pel铆cula no es el t铆pico thriller con fantasmas o sucesos paranormales, aunque durante toda la historia te hace creer trata de una posesi贸n real... una situaci贸n tipo viernes de locos, lo que hace pensar que realmente cambiaron cuerpos es que cuando est谩n recibiendo primeros auxilios en el puente, su sangre se mezcla al mismo tiempo que Roman recibe una carga y Ryan RCP, la pel铆cula muestra esto en recuerdos cuando Roman est谩 siendo hipnotizado para preguntarle qu茅 recuerda del accidente.
Tambi茅n Roman realmente se toma en serio el actuar como su hermano, emula cada peque帽o detalle como h谩bitos, expresiones faciales, es f谩cil creer mientras miramos que se trata de Ryan.
No es una pel铆cula excelente pero sin duda atrapa la atenci贸n y hace preguntar qu茅 suceder谩 despu茅s.
