This morning, I participated in the 7th running of a non-official charity event for our local Redcliffe Hospital auxiliary to raise vital funds for renovations to the palliative care section of the Redcliffe Hospital
The weather forecast thankfully was wrong in our favour as the predicted rain did not eventuate and we were blessed with overcast sky and comfortable temperature
The event is organised by Champion Redcliffe Hospital employee Rhonda Neal and her dedicated band of volunteers who willingly perform many roles with smiling faces and encouragement along the course at drink and lolly stations
From 40 participants in 2020 to 1,000 today and raising in excess of $40k today is evidence of what community can do and all credit to Rhonda for establishing the event during a covid regulated era when most official events were cancelled and Government restricted gatherings to 10 for outdoor activities, hence we commenced with 40 broken up into smaller groups for compliance
Many local businesses donate supplies and samples of their product to ensure participants are hydrated following their event and refuelled with a variety of fruit, healthy snacks, lollies for a sugar hit, bacon and egg burgers, hamburgers, sausage on bread and barista coffee
Today I changed my entry to 10k rather than half marathon as I haven’t trained for 6 weeks but celebrated my achievement in style with a delicious culinary delight - Queensland mud crab for dinner
