Indeed they are pretty alien like. I love how using a macro lens can do that with some subjects.
It is a great place to find mushrooms and other types of fungi. I have some photos of Crowned Tipped Coral that will be in my part II post that I learned about and easily classified thanks to your last #fungifriday post. :)
