No, they are not our squirrels, as I found these all over the place.
This post is about some squirrels that we saw during the day (10 shots).
We pulled our car out and started to drive down the road, when my wife said that she wonders what the squirrel was eating. What? where? and I stopped the car. Oh yes, the squirrel definitely had a nut, and then I understood what the road cleaners were doing, when they continued to reach up at the low-hanging branches in a large tree, picking something off and eating it. No wonder that the squirrels don't come to eat here anymore, as that tree is full of nuts.
I will, for sure, go to pick nuts off the tree and we can investigate what kind of nuts they are. The nuts are starting to fall off the tree in the road, and when a car drives over them, they make a popping sound. I am surprised that the pied crows seem not to be eating it, but many small birds sit in the road eating the scraps left over after a car ran over it. Like the crows, our pair of cape robins also don't eat the nuts in the road, but the laughing and ringneck doves do gather under the tree to eat them.
Now for a bit of humor. This little squirrel was watching me closely, as if to say; Say fella, why are you watching me?
Look how he keeps the nut in his mouth while scratching an itch. A very cool customer this.
Again he said, with a smile; Would you like a piece?
He held the nut to his chest, saying; Sorry, the nut is finished as I ate it.
You can see that he was holding the nut to his chest, and then it was time for me to go.
When we arrived at our destination, I saw two other squirrels.
This little squirrel was hanging on a tree trunk, and I took some shots of him. In fact, three shots.
This little one was trying to hide from me, but I know their game and I started to walk towards him.
He was up in a tree in a flash, and then giving me the eye.
Life is too serious lately, as we had to attend five memorial services over the past three months, from the middle of July to the middle of October. Two were family members and the other three were friends. Let me tell you that it leaves a big dark cloud in one's head, especially as I am in the same age bracket as our three friends who were all in their seventies. The other two were in their eighties, and they were my wife's aunts.
I have a handful of lifelong friends, six of them in all and now two of them are gone. Many memories flash through my mind when I think of all of them. So, I try my best not to think about all of our adventures over time, and my defence against life and its hassles is humor. Thankfully, lately, I have what is called a foggy head as I can't remember much. My easy way out is that I simply regard every day as a Friday, and if I need to know what day it is, I merely ask my wife.
Such is life.
