In the place of cougars, we have leopards here in South Africa and one of them jumped off a rock onto me uncle's back in a dry river bed on the farm. Ripped his shoulder blade wide open, but luckily one of the farm laborers stormed the leopard with an axe and he took off.

It is great to see the animals and to get a chance to run away, but it is the silent stalking ones that are the real buggers to get away from.
