This is an African Darter sitting in a tree high above the dam.
The African Darter (Anhinga rufa) is a silent bird and he submerges his entire body when he swims, showing only his neck and head. That's why the locals call him a snake bird.
Come and view this beautiful bird in flight.
Sublime symmetry and totally streamlined as he bent his head back.
Yes, with that neck, he can see all of the way around him.
Just a mountain view here at the dam where I took the photos.
Did I tell you that this guy looks great in flight, more like a spear than a snake.
Just another look as he circled and came over again.
