The place to be on a very hot day.
Heart shaped love of the Damselflies and these are called "Palmiet Sprite" (Pseudagrion futcigerum).
Some river insects on show here today and I have photos of many more, but this is my favorite selection.
I had to sit with our insect books to get the proper descriptions, but we are lucky as most of the insects in here appear only in the Western Cape Province of South Africa. This has made the search so much easier, as there are thousands of insects in the rest of the country.
So come and have a look.
The female curls up her tail to connect with the male's genitals for the sperm collection. This takes a short time in some species and a longer time in other species. After the sperm collection eggs are formed and she lays the eggs under leaves in the water, with her guy holding her head with his tail to balance her.

The reflection of this tiny Water Skate shows his face.
This little damselfly is called a "Sooty Threadtail" (Elattoneura frenulata and it's a female.
And finally this Dragonfly is the rare "Elusive Skimmer" (Orthetrum rubens)
All of the photos were taken by me at the river today, so they are fresh for your eyes to enjoy. We live in a wonderful world filled with magnificent sights in nature, if only we will take a deeper look at things.
The greatest thing is that it is all free and and we don't have to ask permission from an insect to take its photo :)
