I am talking about weird and lovely cloud formations driven by a strong wind.
A series of cloud formation changes over a 30-minute time span is what you will see in here. I took the liberty of placing the photo at the end of the process as the tag picture, as it is my favorite picture. So, you will see a short range of a cloud constantly changing its formation. Spectacular views, and I certainly felt awed by one of the wonders of nature.
I can tell you that it wasn't a very pleasant experience, due to a howling wind trying to blow my ears off, but we are in a season of heavy winds and hopefully also rainfall, which has not arrived yet. But the weather bureau reckons that we will get rain within the next few days, and the sun halos continue to show up every day. Just a pity that they are not full halos, and that means that we will not get much water.
This was how it started, and I was ready for it as I was standing outside in our front garden, with my camera of course. I call this a cloud hook, and if you scroll slowly through the pictures, I am sure that you will also be hooked :)
Look how that hook slowly moves out from behind the tree, and eventually disappears, only to be replaced by another cloud moving in (8 shots below).
You can see the slight circle of the halo starting to appear.
But shame, the halo didn't make it, as there wasn't enough cloud cover for it to develop.
And that was it. 30 minutes of awesomeness.
I think that I have found a new way to present the constant cloud changes in my posts, especially when a strong wind is active. The thing about the strong winds here, is that one has to watch out for the gusts, meaning that a sudden powerful blast occurs, and that is the danger of the winds here, especially when the gusts are above a 50kph speed. We have times here when the gusts can reach 120kph, and it can uproot big trees, and of course create havoc.
Now as I type this, the wind is howling outside trying to call me, but it is already dark and I would rather stay inside. During Summer the wind coming over the Atlantic Ocean is nice and cool on severe hot days, but in Winter and early Spring the wind feels like somebody left the fridge door open, or maybe the freezer door. I always have a joke of asking somebody to switch the fan off. They don't click right away, but when they get the joke they laugh.
