Come and look at this little guy doing his thing in our garden!
The Cape White Eye (Zosterops virens) is endemic to South Africa.
We have a wide variety of birds here and I have selected a few to post on Hive in the past.
Today I want to feature this nifty little fellow on his hunt for food in our garden.
Let's see how he goes about his life!
Closely inspecting whether that bud could be edible lol.
Yep, it seemed that he has found something !
And yeah, there was also something else that was worth a peck!
At times acrobatic styles are required to access some food!
Finally, he popped over to have a look at me from inside our zigzag tree!

"This species is about 12 cm long with rounded wings, strong legs, and a conspicuous ring of white feathers round the eyes. The upperparts are green, and the throat and vent are bright yellow. The members of the Z. v. capensis has a grey breast and belly, whereas Z. v. virens has a greenish-yellow breast and belly".
"They are very vocal, and constantly keep in touch with soft trilled pee, pree or pirreee callnotes. The song consists of repeated long jerky phrases of sweet reedy notes, varying in pitch, volume and temp, usually starting off with teee teee or pirrup pirrup notes, then becoming a fast rambled jumble of notes, which may incorporate mimicked phrases of other birdcalls".

They are a real pleasure to have around with very cute habits. Married for life to one partner and will only take another wife if the current wife dies!
