La Reggia: gli Interni

Avete mai provato la sensazione di essere in pace con voi stessi e col mondo, non avendo alcuna aspettativa sulla giornata, vivendo ogni istante godendovelo pienamente? Sono rare le volte in cui ciò mi capita; personalmente, lo trovo difficile perché sono sempre piena di ansia e voglia di fare, di programmare, organizzare, che spesso mi perdo la bellezza della spontaneità.

Quando mi lascio andare, invece, tutto sembra allineato e le cose vanno esattamente come devono andare. Qualche monaco buddhista potrebbe dire "sii acqua, non essere sasso" - ovvero, lascia fluire, non ti mettere di traverso: asseconda la vita, che fa da sé.

In queste occasioni, chiaramente, questi ragionamenti non trovano spazio: sono riflessioni che faccio col senno di poi, e che mi aiutano a comprendere quanto sia importante riconoscermi e riconoscere i momenti di crisi, ansia e disagio dentro me per lasciarli andare e godere invece di un po' più di leggerezza e spensieratezza.

Ho conosciuto un ragazzo che mi ha dato la possibilità di vivere un weekend in totale senerità; inizialmente, la sua proposta mi ha un po' spaventata: ci conoscevamo da pochi giorni e trovavo un po' strana l'idea di trascorrere 3 giorni in viaggio con uno sconosciuto. Poi mi sono lasciata prendere dall'entusiasmo di vivere una nuova esperienza e ho dato ascolto al mio istinto più che alla ragione.

Organizzata e schematica come sono, non potevo lasciare tutto al caso: mi aveva dato carta bianca, per cui, come sono solita fare per lavoro, ho creato un itinerario molto preciso, con tanto di foglio excel con orari, indirizzi e prezzi.

Morale della favola: quell'itinerario è rimasto un foglio excel nel mio Google Drive. E il viaggio vero è stato tutt'altro, a tratti improvvisato, con qualche plot twist e variazione.

Mi sono riaccesa! Quella parte di me rimasta sopita per troppo tempo, quella più giocherellona, sempre pronta a scherzare, allegra e spensierata che avevo sepolto da qualche parte, è riemersa con uno sconosciuto.

Forse proprio perché nessuno dei due aveva nulla da perdere o da guadagnare, né ci conoscevamo realmente, avevamo la possibilità di essere noi stessi senza filtri. Eravamo da scoprire interamente, l'un l'altra. Mi sono divertita, abbiamo visto posti incredibili, mangiato cibo spettacolare e condiviso momenti di vita lenta, intensa, inaspettata.

Se c'era una meta del nostro viaggio su cui non potevamo transiggere era la Reggia di Caserta. Nonostante lui l'avesse già vista anni prima, ricordandosi per altro della durata infinita della visita, mi ci portò. D'altronde, visitarla con me, avrebbe avuto tutto un altro sapore!

Io sono rimasta estasiata già solamente dal giardino d'entrata, dalla maestosità della facciata d'ingresso. Erano circa 20 anni che volevo visitarla: le aspettative altissime mi hanno caricata parecchio di energia, nonostante l'alzataccia per partire presto da Roma. Eppure, arrivati lì, ero emozionata come una bambina.

Tanto c'era da vedere e catturare con la macchina fotografica che avrei voluto avere più occhi per apprezzare tutto. La brillantezza dei marmi coloratissimi, il pregio degli affreschi, le placcature in oro delle decorazioni delle sale e degli arredamenti degli appartamenti reali, le trame sgargianti dei drappeggi dei tessuti, delle poltrone e dei tappeti, dei letti a baldacchino e delle pareti. Ogni angolo degli interni della Reggia mi parlava di ricchezza, grandezza. Anche troppo? Forse alla 13^ sala cominciava ad appesantire l'occhio, questo senz'altro.

Tra i miei scatti preferiti ci sono senz'altro i riflessi: uno dei modi più antichi di farci i selfie, di intrappolarci insieme al contesto in un fotogramma eterno. E mentre io mi divertivo a trovare prospettive e forme in quel marasma di marmi, strumenti e oggetti pregiatissimi, materiali preziosissimi, di cui ogni stanza era stracolma, il mio compagno di avventura si intratteneva cercando in me, o in qualche altro visitatore, o addirittura negli inservienti in servizio, un briciolo di complicità ogni qual volta gli venisse in mente una battuta di varia natura, per lo più doppi sensi o giochi di parole, guardando qualsiasi oggetto gli capitasse a tiro, per alleggerire tutti e tutto da quella pesantezza artistica e storica da cui eravamo circondati.

La Reggia: i Giardini all'Italiana

In definitiva: spassoso. Mi sono anche sorpresa di me stessa di quanto poco ci ho messo ad apprezzare il tutto senza soffermarmi su ogni singola descrizione: non era il mio obiettivo del giorno.

Volevo farmi trascinare dalla curiosità, dall'occhio e dalla macchina fotografica, senza appesantire la visita da mille nozioni, date e dettagli che avrei dimenticato di lì a qualche ora. Anche perché, per quanto io sia senz'altro un ottimo motivo per ripetere una visita, non gli avrei fatto un favore se mi fossi soffermata troppo.

La Reggia ha questo di meraviglioso: gli spazi interni ti riempiono gli occhi quasi quanto la vastità dei giardini che la circondano, con le sue piscine, i giochi d'acqua, le statue, gli alberi e le siepi, i viali infiniti che ti fanno sentire così piccolo e leggero.

Se come noi siete fortunati abbastanza da beccare una giornata di dicembre con 20 gradi e sole pieno, non potete che godervi la passeggiata lungo i viali, baciati dal sole, specchiandovi nelle piscine piene di carpe che fanno capolino dalla superficie dell'acqua.

Avevamo trascorso parecchio tempo nelle stanze della Reggia: l'aria fresca dei giardini e quegli spazi infiniti avvolti nel verde, accompagnati dal rumore dell'acqua delle fontane erano assolutamente gli ingredienti migliori che ci hanno guidato nelle chiacchiere in allegria, nelle domande curiose per conoscerci, negli abbracci teneri e negli scatti rubati a qualche sorriso spontaneo e non calcolato.

Da qualche tempo ormai penso che sia molto importante associare i posti alle sensazioni che ci trasmettono nel momento in cui li visitiamo: questo ci permette di creare ricordi unici strettamente connessi con il momento personale che stavamo vivendo in quel frangente.

Chiaramente, sensazioni ed emozioni provengono da fattori interni a noi ed esterni, come i pensieri che ci pervadono la mente, o le chiacchiere e gli attimi condivisi con la persona con cui stiamo visitando quel posto in quel momento.

Va da sé quindi che ogni luogo è sempre uguale a se stesso, di per sé, ma sempre diverso da se stesso nella misura in cui noi stessi siamo diversi ogni volta che lo visitiamo. Sensazioni, emozioni, pensieri e compagni di avventura contribuiscono a plasmare il ricordo che creiamo del luogo che viviamo, creando un racconto di quel luogo ogni volta diverso.

E cosa succede se visitiamo una sola volta nella nostra vita un determinato posto? Evidentemente resterà impresso nella nostra memoria in maniera strettamente correlata all'incontro che abbiamo fatto in quel posto, alle sensazioni ed emozioni sperimentate in quei momenti.

Può suonare spaventoso, ma al tempo stesso credo anche che fare i conti con l'inaspettato, l'incerto e il transitorio sia un grande passo avanti, verso la consapevolezza che per quanto ci si possa impegnare ad organizzare e pianificare, la vita avrà sempre il suo corso, e tante vale, a volte, non sempre, ma quando è necessario, smettere di lavorare sui pivot di excel e lasciare che la vita ci entri dentro.

Prendere e partire con uno sconosciuto, rivedere i piani, prenotare un B&B a distanza di 2 ore: la Flavia di qualche mese fa avrebbe rifiutato tutto il pacchetto. Quando ero più piccola ero molto più coraggiosa, mi buttavo di più, avevo meno paura di farmi del male; negli anni mi sono irrigidita, ho racchiuso me stessa in muri di paure ed insicurezze, costruiti in seguito a delusioni e sconfitte, che mi hanno fatta sentire sempre più fragile. Sto ricominciando ora a non aver paura di farmi male, a buttarmi. Sto re-imparando ad essere bambina, a prendere la vita con meno serietà, a fare ciò che mi appassiona e a scoprire nuove realtà, da sola o in compagnia, non ha importanza.

Come dice spesso Matthew Hussey, noi ogni giorno decidiamo volontariamente di soffrire, perché riconosciamo i benefici che quella sofferenza ci porta. Siamo quindi pronti ad affrontare un dolore momentaneo, e ad investire tempo ed energie in quel dolore, a fronte dei benefici che porterà. Decidiamo di soffrire andando in palestra, iscrivendoci ad un corso universitario, iniziando a scrivere un libro, o un blog: tutte azioni che intrinsicamente richiedono un impegno da parte nostra, una fatica, una sofferenza.

La sofferenza che ci fa più crescere e diventare forti, a nostra insaputa, tuttavia, è la sofferenza che non decidiamo di vivere ma che ci viene imposta dall'esterno: ad esempio, la rottura di una relazione decisa unidirezionalmente e presentataci come un fulmine a ciel sereno. Quanto di quel dolore siamo disposti a sopportare, considerando che non lo scegliamo? La risposta più ovvia è: neanche una briciola. Anzi: inizialmente non ci crediamo, lo rifiutiamo in toto, non possiamo crederci perché forse abbiamo investito veramente tantissime energie e tempo in quella relazioni, e non siamo pronti ad accettare che abbiamo fatto tutto per nulla. Eppure siamo costretti a sopportarlo, a superarlo e a farci plasmare da quel dolore. Pena la depressione, la fine della nostra felicità, la conclusione di un'esitenza dignitosa.

A distanza di parecchi mesi, sono grata di aver vissuto quel dolore insopportabile, che non mi faceva dormire la notte, che non mi consentiva di uscire di casa, di stare con gli amici, di sorridere, di godere delle piccole gioie della vita... perché solo così sono riuscita a demolire quei muri dentro di me, che mi aiutavano a gestire l'ansia attraverso una continua pianificazione della vita. Realizzazione scontata ma fondamentale: nulla (o quasi) di quello che pianifichiamo si realizza così come ce lo immaginiamo. Sarebbe potuta andare diversamente? Senz'altro. Ma ciò non vuol dire che sarebbe andata meglio.

E se non mi fossi trovata costretta dalla vita a dover superare una sofferenza così grande, la più grande della mia vita, che mi è stata causata mesi fa, sicuramente non avrei vissuto le esperienze fatte fin qui da quel giorno, tante delle quali "prime volte". E per tutte quelle esperienze già vissute e quelle che saranno, sono grata oggi di aver sofferto tanto da pensare che le lacrime non avessero una fine. Spoiler: le lacrime non finiscono, al massimo si muore disidratati. Forse allora meglio chiudere i rubinetti, accettare che quel che è stato, sicuramente indimentabile e segnante, è terminato e ci sarà dell'altro che ci aspetta, di cui non possiamo neanche immaginare. Come questo weekend insensatamente inaspettato e meraviglioso di cui continuerò a parlarvi nella seconda parte.

It's rare for me to experience this; personally, I find it difficult because I'm always so anxious and eager to do, plan, and organize, that I often miss out on the beauty of spontaneity.

In these situations, clearly, these kinds of reasonings have no place: they are reflections I make with hindsight, and they help me understand how important it is to recognize myself and the moments of crisis, anxiety, and discomfort within me, to let them go and instead enjoy a little more lightness and lightheartedness.

I met a guy who gave me the chance to live a weekend in total serenity; At first, his proposal scared me a little: we'd only known each other for a few days, and I found the idea of spending three days traveling with a stranger a bit strange. I'm back on track! That part of me that had remained dormant for too long, the playful, always ready to joke, cheerful and carefree part that I had buried somewhere, has resurfaced with a stranger.

Perhaps precisely because neither of us had anything to lose or gain, nor did we really know each other, we had the opportunity to be ourselves without filters. We were waiting to be discovered entirely, each other. I had fun, we saw incredible places, ate spectacular food, and shared moments of slow, intense, unexpected life.

If there was one destination on our journey we couldn't compromise, it wasto the Royal Palace of Caserta. Even though he had already seen it years before, and also remembered how incredibly long the visit would be, he took me there. Besides, visiting it with me would have been a whole different experience!

I was already enraptured by the entrance garden alone, by the majesty of the entrance façade. I'd been wanting to visit it for about 20 years: the sky-high expectations really boosted my energy, despite having to get up early to leave Rome. There was so much to see and capture with my camera that I wished I had more eyes to appreciate it all. The brilliance of the multi-colored marbles, the exquisite frescoes, the gold plating of the decorations in the rooms and furnishings of the royal apartments, the vibrant patterns of the drapes, the armchairs and carpets, the canopied beds and walls. Every corner of the Palace's interiors spoke to me of richness and grandeur. Was it too much? Maybe by the 13th room it was starting to feel heavy on the eye, that's for sure.

Among my favorite shots are definitely reflections: one of the oldest ways of making us selfies, to trap us together with the context in an eternal frame. The Palace: the Gardens Italian Style

In short: hilarious. I even surprised myself with how quickly I appreciated it all without dwelling on every single description: that wasn't my goal that day.

I wanted to be carried away by curiosity, my eye, and my camera, without weighing down the visit with a thousand notions, dates, and details that I would forget in a few hours. Also because, while I certainly provide a good reason to repeat a visit, I wouldn't have done him a favor if I had lingered too long.

We had spent a lot of time in the rooms of the Royal Palace: the fresh air of the gardens and those infinite spaces surrounded by greenery, accompanied by the sound of the water of the fountains were absolutely the best ingredients that guided us in cheerful chats, in curious questions to get to know each other, in tender hugs and in stolen shots of some spontaneous and uncalculated smiles.

For some time now, I've thought it's very important to associate places with the sensations they convey when we visit them: this allows us to create unique memories closely connected to the personal moment we were experiencing at that moment.

Clearly, sensations and emotions come from internal and external factors, such as the thoughts that pervade our mind, or the conversations and moments shared with the person with where we are visiting that place at that moment.

It goes without saying, therefore, that every place is always the same, in itself, but always different from itself to the extent that we ourselves are different every every time we visit it. And what if do we visit a certain place only once in our life? It may sound scary, but at the same time I also believe that dealing with the unexpected, the uncertain and the transitory is a great step forward, towards the awareness that no matter how much we try to organize and plan, life will always have its course, and it is worth, sometimes, not always, but when it is necessary, to stop working on Excel pivots and let life enter us inside.

Picking up and leaving with a stranger, revising plans, booking a B&B two hours away: Flavia from a few months ago would have rejected the whole package. When I was younger, I was much braver, I threw myself into things more, I was less afraid of hurting myself; over the years, I became rigid, I enclosed myself in walls of fear and insecurities, built after disappointments and defeats, which made me feel increasingly fragile. I'm now starting to not be afraid of getting hurt again, to throw myself into things. I'm relearning to be a child, to take life less seriously, to do what I want and discovering new realities, alone or in company, it doesn't matter.

As Matthew Hussey often says, we voluntarily choose to suffer every day because we recognize the benefits that suffering brings us. door. The suffering that makes us grow and become stronger, unknowingly, however, is the suffering we don't choose to experience but rather is imposed on us from outside: for example, the breakup of a relationship decided one way or another and presented to us like a bolt from the blue. How much of that pain are we willing to endure, considering we didn't choose it? The most obvious answer is: not even a crumb. Indeed, initially we don't believe it, we reject it entirely, we can't believe it because perhaps we truly invested so much energy and time in that relationship, and we're not ready to accept that we did it all for nothing. Yet we are forced to endure it, to overcome it, and to be shaped by that pain. After several months, I'm grateful to have experienced that pain. Unbearable, keeping me awake at night, preventing me from leaving the house, spending time with friends, smiling, enjoying life's little joys... because only in this way was I able to break down those walls inside me, which helped me manage anxiety through constant life planning. An obvious but crucial realization: nothing (or almost nothing) of what we plan turns out the way we imagine. Could things have gone differently? Absolutely. But that doesn't mean things would have gone better.

And if life hadn't forced me to overcome such great suffering, the greatest of my life, which was caused to me months ago, I certainly wouldn't have had the experiences I've had since that day, so many of them. "First times." And for all those experiences already lived and those to come, I'm grateful today that I've suffered enough to think the tears would never end. Spoiler alert: tears never end; at worst, you'll die of dehydration. Perhaps then it's better to turn off the taps, accept that what has been, undoubtedly unforgettable and life-changing, is over and there will be more waiting for us, things we can't even imagine.
