I'm getting way better at removing the hide too.
Yesterday, we processed a buck whitetail I recently harvested. We made some jerky, canned some of the meat, and froze the rest. Then, after we were finished, I went out and harvested another whitetail. In our state, I can harvest up to six per season. Anyway, this one was an impressive size, and being one who likes to tan the hides, I got to work once again.
The interesting thing that I was able to do this time was to just carefully peel the hide off. Usually, if you just tug or cut the hide off, it's covered in fat and flesh. This time though, I managed to get the hide removed with almost nothing to flesh off of it. When I combine the skill and care I put into removing this one with the actually tanning skills, I'm really excited about the potential of what I could do with this one. Also, the shot placement left for a very intact hide that is also a good size. Here's some photos to help y'all gain perspective.
