The rain beats relentlessly against the frosted glass of your dimly lit office on the third floor of the Sterling Building. It's 2:14 AM. As a private investigator down on your luck, you're used to late nights, but not like this.
A sharp, urgent knock echoes through the empty hallway. Footsteps—heavy and uneven—approach your door. Before you can even stand up from your creaky wooden desk, a heavy envelope slides under the crack of the door, accompanied by a low, desperate voice from the outside:
"They know you're looking into the shipyard. Open it, or you're dead by sunrise."
You hear hasty, retreating footsteps rushing down the stairwell, fading into the storm outside.
Your Move
You are standing by your desk with a loaded .38 revolver in your drawer and the mysterious envelope lying on the floor. What do you do?
Option A: Draw your gun, unlock the door immediately, and chase after whoever is out in the hallway.
Option B: Stay put, lock the inner office door, and cautiously pick up the envelope to see what's inside.
Option C: Ignore the envelope, grab your coat, and head out the back fire escape to observe the street below.
Which path do you choose?
You have until next post to choose or i make my own choice.
