Hmmm! Today, at our NYSC General CDS meeting, one of the questions raised was why one needs to do other courses.
Having a First Class in Anatomy is nothing. It is more like having a 2.1 in the same course. What makes the difference is the additional skill that one possesses.
Now, the man from a private firm addressed us and told us why we needed to choose a course. He said one should choose a course related to one's field or job.
Hmmm! So, if you would ask me which skill I have in mind, I would rather go for data analysis and web design. These are tech skills that are really relatable, and they totally blend with the modern society that we are in.
Why is it of importance to me?
I would rather say, why is this of value to me in the future?
I aspire to be a lecturer who inspires many, both offline and online. Additionally, I love to make great discoveries through my research skills. Data analysis is one of those skills that gives me an edge above my peers. Many end up giving out their data analysis jobs to professionals outside their immediate surroundings, which I find absurd.
Data analysis skills, in combination with my research skills, not only save me from the hullabaloo caused by various organizations in terms of extortion but also add to my CV.
It opens me to a wider range of opportunities and much more respect when it comes to tech skills.
Additionally, we are no longer in an age where lesser skills are valued above others. We are now in an age where tech skills are needed in addition to one's course of study.
I was once asked in an interview, "What skills do you have that will be beneficial to our firm in addition to your profound knowledge of Anatomy?"
I simply answered that I could use Excel, GraphPad, and Canva for designs. Additionally, I write on platforms like Ecency, Facebook, and Instagram when I am less busy.
He smiled and said, "You do need to work on yourself. Your degree needs more backing."
Immediately, I teamed up with researchers on the writing of a paper on the effect of marijuana on Wistar rats.
Additionally, we went to conferences around the world.
Now, I have written four publications, of which my name appeared on two. I have assisted someone during a PhD research project, and I have contributed academically through research and data analysis.
Thanks for visiting!
