POKO THE PENGUIN

Chapter 3: A lesson about Sharing

Poko-Alexander-Phillip
Poko the Penguin and Alexander the Duck were walking home from school together.

Alexander was eating a delicious, crunchy candy bar, and Poko was humming a song to himself.

The friends turned a corner and came upon Phillip the Meerkat, sitting on a park bench.

Right away, they could tell something was wrong. The little Meerkat was hunched over on the bench. His ears were droopy, his whiskers sagging and his tail was tucked between his legs. As Poko and Alexander got closer to the bench, they realized that Phillip was crying softly.

"Why are you crying, Phillip?" Asked Alexander.

"The other kids at school have been picking on me." Phillip sniffled . "They don't like me because I'm different, and I'm worried that I'll never fit in."

"It's okay, Phillip." Said Poko. "I have an idea! You can eat the rest of Alexander's candy bar. That should help you stop crying."

"Really?" Said Phillip, his ears perking up.

Alexander looked at Poko in surprise, then he looked down at the candy bar he was holding.

It was a very good candy bar, and he wanted to finish it, but he also wanted Phillip to be happy.

"Sure, Phillip. You can have it." Alexander said.

He smiled at Phillip and offered him the candy.

"Does it have any peanuts in it?" Asked Phillip. "I can't have peanuts."

"No." Said Poko.

"Okay!" Said Phillip, and took the candy bar from Alexander.

The two friends said goodbye to Phillip and walked on down the street, leaving the happy Meerkat sitting on the bench with a big smile and chocolate on his face.

"Why did you tell him there were no peanuts in the candy bar?" Alexander wondered.

"It was the kindest thing to do, really." Poko said, and continued humming softly.
