Hello, beautiful people! Welcome to my blog. It's a pleasure to have you in this space. Once again, welcome 🤗
Getting kids to eat is a tug of war; talk more of eating healthy, and this is one of the challenges parents face almost daily in dealing with their children. Parents always want their kids to eat healthy, but it's as if these kids already have their plans. More often than not, they are usually drawn to colorful and sweet packaged foods, and these things are what make junk food so appealing.
As a mom, never have I thought I would be having the same eating challenges with my kids that my parents had with me all through my days at home before I got married. Growing up, my parents were constantly worried about my eating habits. I was a picky eater, and even when I did eat, it was usually junk food. I remember how my mom would often express her concerns to anyone who would give her a listening ear.
As a parent, I now understand firsthand the frustration and worry that come with trying to get your kids to eat healthy. It's a challenge that is very overwhelming and exhausting. Mealtime has now become a battleground for a lot of parents and guardians.
So how do I get my kids to eat healthy?
Here are the strategies I use, though they differ. For my two kids
My daughter always has something she wants, be it toys, snacks, special food, clothes, shoes, or taking her out or to visit her grandparents.
So most times I ask her what she wants me to get for her, or I tell her I will buy something for her. For instance, about two weeks ago, I made an order for a shoe for her without her knowledge. Then when I wanted her to do something, I showed her the shoe and asked her if she liked it; she responded yes, and I promised her that I was going to get it for her if she did what I said.
Another strategy is when I am eating, I ask them to join me, even though this doesn't work all the time, so whenever I am eating, I make different gestures that make them want to taste what I am eating. I say things like, OMG, this food is very delicious; Mummy's hands are blessed. Don't you want to try it?
Another way to make my daughter eat sometimes is to feed her; I don't know why, but sometimes she behaves like the baby she is and wants to be pampered.
While for my son, you just have to make mealtime fun time. You give him one spoonful of food and play with him before giving him the next spoon of food.
Though getting kids to eat healthy is challenging most times, but it's not totally impossible; one just needs to be patient with them.
