Would you say, then, that haiku written in Japanese often have more "meanings" than those written in English, without any images? My understanding has been that in Japanese, the 5/7/5 structure is required. Most translations into English, though, have fewer syllables, sometimes very few. I wonder how much is lost. I've gotten a bit better at reading them in Japanese, but still often need an explanation for a piece to become clearer.
